Fruit Grading

Why do we grade the fruit?

We wholesale our fruit to multiple stores, but our standards are based on the guidelines set by our primary buyer.

How do we grade the fruit?

Fruit is graded on the following criteria:
Appearance
Weight

Fresh dragon fruit with pink and green skin on a white background.

Premium

Grade 1

This is the fruit you are likely used to seeing in the store. The skin has little to no blemishes and weighs between .75 and 1.5 pounds.

Misfit

Grade 2

This is fruit that can have clear exterior damage from either the sun, bugs, or just friction from the plant it was attached to. It could also be a beautiful piece of fruit, but it is either to big or too small for the stores. Despite all of that, the fruit inside is just as tasty as the grade 1.

What do we do with the Misfit Fruit?

This is one of the main reasons we started our Open Days. Since many stores would not take our misfit fruit, we decided to setup our own shop where people could purchase the fruit at a discounted rate. There is nothing wrong with the fruit and many people don’t mind blemished fruit if the price is cheaper.

We also take fruit that is blemished or reaching the end of its shelf life and dehydrate it or turn it into sorbet. This is a great way of preserving fruit while also creating an incredibly tasty treat.
